About Tea

Tea is the second most consumed beverage on the planet – after Water. It has even greater consumption than Coffee.
If your tea packet doesn’t contain at least 75% leaves of Camellia Sinensis then it’s not considered tea and is known as Tisane. Tisanes are infused with a variety of herbs or spices and are processed in a way similar to tea (steeped by adding hot water). Any Tea, in order to qualify to be sold as TEA, must have 75% of its contents as leaves plucked from the Tea Plant – Camellia Sinensis, as prescribed by the Tea Board of India.
Tea was originally used for medicinal purposes like detoxification and was often chewed rather than being drunk.
All the teas including black, oolong, green, and white come from the same plant, Camellia Sinensis. The difference being how the leaves are treated after harvesting.
Around the world three cups of tea are drunk for every one cup of coffee
Tea absorbs moisture naturally. If at all you want to “store” tea, do store it in an airtight container.
Tea was apparently discovered in 2737 BC. It is believed that a Chinese Emperor – Shennong let some leaves fall into his cup of boiling water and drank the resulting liquid.
The best Green Tea is produced out of the first harvest, better known as First Flush of any season.
Darjeeling Teas are referred to as “Champagne of teas” and are more expensive as they grow only in a 70 square mile area in the Himalayan foothills.
